Shanghai New Bund International Business District is the "3.0 version" of a urban module developed by the Lujiazui Group and it has a gross floor area of approximately 3.5 million square meters. Art Pioneer Studio (APS) was commissioned to curate the public art for this project and invited leading contemporary art figures such as Shinji Ohmaki to create works in the public space of the office building. The site-specific art created by Shinji Ohmaki complements the architectural space designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates which generates a harmonious dialogue between art and space.
Shinji Ohmaki believes that nature is beyond the control of man. His work is devoted to exploring the idea of the nature, the possible way to live with nature, and the creative solution to incorporate nature within the architecture. This artwork presents an organic shape in the artificial space made from straight lines, showing the flowing trajectory of earth’s energy formed through tens of thousands of years, and a touch of life expressed by the changing light pattern reflected off the undulatory water surface. By introducing his work into this modern space, Shinji Ohmaki is managed to exhibit a peaceful relationship between man and nature.
