The main venue of Shanghai Urban Space Art Season (SUSAS) 2019 is the 5.5 km waterfront space on the south bund of Yangpu River. Under the theme of “ENCOUNTER,” the Principal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau of the Shanghai Municipality and Planning and Natural Resources Bureau of Yangpu District jointly commissioned the international art consulting and management company Art Pioneer Studio (APS) to function as the primary curatorial team and the general contractor of 20 permanent public artworks, brought to the site by both domestic and international artists.
More than 20 top artists were invited to create site-specific art according to the natural and cultural environment of each location. These works will become the everlasting artistic scenery displayed along the Yangpu Riverside. The project also initiated an open call to the global art community, inviting artists to create works at five different sites, including the Shipyard Welding Dock and Water Plant Trestle.
